Loved those beams shooting from all parts of the cloud.
Woke this morning thankful for Saturday...imagine my groaning when I realized it was not just NOT Saturday but in fact it was only Tuesday. Monday is always such a long lonely day. And mine was way busy. After work, quickly walked the doggie around the block and then took off for Milwaukee. Then got home, found out about Simon and decided it was a good idea to mow off my disappointment. Slept well at least.
Nearly had to call my Milwaukee Expert yet again because I can't seem to get to and from without getting lost. And when I get lost I get flustered. And when I get flustered I make bad to really bad to even worse decisions...and if it's dark out - oh boy. Only got lost 3x yesterday. All I had to do was find the State Fair grounds...Right off the bat, I don't remember if I can take my new route - J & 20 & 894 (is that even right?), but where does 894 meet 94 - before or after State Fair? Best not go that way cuz then I'll be waaaay lost sitting on the lakefront waiting for a rescue. Looooong route and ended up missing the State Fair exit anyhow (oh is that what the huge sign saying turn here meant? crap. You know I can drive Houston without getting lost but I can't function along the interstate of Milwaukee - what is that? Must be the feeders - you don't call them that here...I don't remember what you call them here but they are feeders.) Took the next exit and didn't have a clue where I was other than I need to go thata way. Saw a fence and drove towards it only I couldn't find my way in...not to fear just stay close to the....where did the fence go? The Milwaukee Mile - that's INSIDE the Fairgrounds - I had no clue. Finally found it AND my Gate #1. Phew.
Then, my little map and the big grounds threw me but I found my building with relatively little trouble (ie. only slight banging of the steering wheel) Parked illegally cuz that's just my thing. Did what I needed to do and zoomed back out. Greenfield Ave....hmmmm. I've heard of it - does that not count for anything!?? I'm guessing this way is the way home. Hey this is 59. So, since it's State Road 59 that means it runs the whole state and will take me back to Whitewater, right? Like, past the big chicken and everything? Should I get back on the Interstate? Do I want 94 or 894? Where the heck does 45 go? Isn't 43 around here somewhere - I at least know that goes through Elkhorn...wait is it 43 that I wanted all along? Hmmm, I bet it is. So, 894 to 43? or 94 to 43? or maybe even 94 to 894 to 43? And which way does 43 run? I want to go to Chicago or Beliot, right? One or the other, or both?
It's light out and after a stoplight map consult I decide to follow 59. No need for Expert Man to know I got lost...he'll probably just add that to the long list of reasons not to hang out with me more. Laughing with his friends: she gets lost trying to find her own kitchen. Ok that only happened the one time! =) Hey! At least I'm not boring.
Now, do I go back 59 on Wednesday or do I go my new "hey you live in Whitewater not Fort" route and interstate to Hwy 100 - does the new route meet with Hwy 100 before or after meeting with 94. Maybe I should take Sunnyslope just cuz that sounds like good things would happen there - if you get lost it would be pleasant at least. Either way does that mean I need to turn this way or that way? Hmmmmmm.
But, you can't get found if you are never lost. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Cary and I were sent on a mission. After looking at the photos it is cream puff time. I'd already had my cream puff and wasn't hungry. Four solid scoops of cream per puff - made fresh not sitting risking sogginess...oh yeah.... Grandma wanted an eclair. They don't have eclairs at Jefferson. Farm Bureau lady said....well, I could drizzle some hot fudge over top. OMG are you serious!? That would be beyond awesome! I kept telling her she was my most favoritist person on the planet! Suddenly I was hungry too! Cary asks if I want one now too and I'm drooling barely able to speak heck yeah! Grandma seemed alittle disappointed at first because what she really wanted was the custard...but she nearly licked her plate like I did. Warm hot fudge over a cool cream puff....mmmm. Uncle Kracker at the Jefferson County Fair. Got a short video of him singing my favorite song..but it won't upload here. It's ok. It's my personal favorite for it's meaning and what it symbolizes to me so I guess it's ok that it's kept to myself. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Uncle Kracker performing at the Jefferson County Fair Friday night. I weaseled my way as close to the stage as possible. Course, just like DC, I was not allowed any closer because of the new seating arrangements...I am an outside the line kinda girl. So, I just got as close as I could and worked with what I found...which meant at one point moving out of the line of fire and into the path of the incoming beer flying out her hand as she fell to the ground in front of me. Promptly they were all removed from the fairgrounds (during the concert) and the rest of us sighed and said thanks and moved alittle bit closer. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
I spy dark sky. Looking north from the Jefferson Vet the other day. The day of the massive rains and flooding and the Cambria tornado if I remember right...my memory isn't so hot as of late. Days are still kinda messed up. No contrast added...this is how it was. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Here's the other robin shot. Mmmm, caterpillar AND worms... BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Not sure where the nest was but it had to have been close. I'm guessing that since I was watching so closely that's why it waited so long. Course it might have been waiting for me...did you get me from this side...and from that. How about over here? Are you sure you don't want to take one more? =) And then it disappeared and I still have no idea where the nest is! But I got a few good shots of it. And only a mild crop needed. Ha! Who needs a big fancy camera and 200mm lens! Well, ok...I do I do! But, that's more a want than a need. Advice I was given not long ago from one of my profs was that you don't need a new, better, different camera until you can't take the shots you want to take with your current one. Who cares if it's just a point and shoot and "everyone" whose anyone has a fancy camera. As long as it's working for you it's all you need. He's pretty smart! For the most part I still get the shots I want with my little beat up buddy.
Pretty fabulous weekend.... BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast was Saturday. Here the guys make a huge batch of awesome eggs. Plus it's just major amounts of fun that they use dustpans for scoops! 2 pounds of butter in the pan first, then the eggs, (and mushrooms/peppers depending on the batch) and 4 guys stirring and keeping this moving...until ta da! Incredicle Edible Eggs! coopsgirl22 on Flickr: Posted a Photo BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
So I'm mowing the lawn at my house sitting locale...mowing mowing mowing. Suddenly there is this little bitty baby mouse? vole? in my path. It's sooooo tiny and new to the earth that it doesn't even have it's eyes open. Now I ask you, where in the heck did it come from? One second it just appears. It's too young to have come out on it's own. Did the mower grab it somehow from it's nest unharmed? How could that be? Those blades are slapping a circle pretty heavy. Well, I'm not sure what to do. It's too young for me to care for it - besides not having a clue what to do for it. Heck, I'm not even sure if it's a vole or a mouse; although, I'm fairly confident it's not a mole. So, I look around alllllll over that lawn. Not a clue where it came from although there are two holes. It had to have come from one of them. I pick it up with a piece of bark and place it gently in one of the holes. It was crying so I figure Mom will come up and get him. Now, I do realize that hole might belong to a chipmunk, ground squirrel, or snake or something equally as sinister to the little bitty baby vole, but the Universe knew that's what I'd do - I'd try to find it's home and make it ok for the little guy...so I have to believe that this is what was supposed to happen - heck maybe whatever was in that hole needed a snack to survive and by my putting the little bitty baby vole in that hole IT survived. I don't claim to have this whole thing figured out! Course the homeowners don't need to know as they will probably not think my saving the little critter is quite such a good thing!
Still wonder where it came from. Kinda like earlier in the day on our walk. Walking down Main St when suddenly a piece of pizza fell from the sky. I swear it. True it was from a tree and it is fall so, no doubt the squirrel was probably besides itself to have found such a treasure but still a piece of pizza did fall from the sky. Into the clouds....for my first time ever shooting such an event I'm pretty happy with how they came out. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Sooo close to having an awesome shot. If only that wheel would have been in the shot. Bummer. Yet, I still really really like this. I like these so well because it was so difficult to get the shots and then I didn't know if I got them until I got home so it was fun all over again to see the moves they made. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Another of Jeff Kargola. How he has time to twist and turn and still land on the wheels is beyond me. Had so much fun because I didn't know what to expect and what a challenge to get the shots. Not only because from where I was sitting I had no idea when they had even taken off, but you never know how high they'll be, plus my little camera has such a delay when you snap and when the pic takes. Freestyling...James Carter gets some major air. FreestyleMX was at the Jefferson County Fair. We happened past while they got warmed up and I just was going to shoot a few shots...I got more wrapped up in it than Alex (6 year old boy who loves anything vehicle). I'll be adding more shots in the next couple of days. I'll definitely remember this. This is something I'd totally go to alone. I was soooooo caught up in it. Very exciting! I had no idea. BeachStorm on Flickr: Posted a Photo
During warm ups the guys didn't get huge air time but how they can get off the bikes and do flips and whatnot and still land - there didn't appear to be enough room to really get up to speed as far as I was concerned...and you realize that I am an expert at such things. Yeah right! Very cool! I had so much fun! This is Jeff Kargola. I seemed to be in tune with his jumps the best out of the three riders...most of my good shots were of him. More to come....
